How far in advance should I book my session?

It is always a good idea to book while pregnant. Clients who book in advance get first priority on ensuring their baby’s session falls in that “ideal range” of 6-18 days of age.

We are frequently able to make room for last minute bookings as well, so if your baby is already here, we would still love to here from you! We will try my best to fit you in so you don’t miss the once in a lifetime opportunity of newborn photos for your baby.

When do newborn sessions take place?

Newborn sessions ideally take place between 6 and 18 days after a baby’s birth.

While 6-18 days is the “preferred” timeframe for photographing newborns, We never refuse clients with older newborns. Every parent deserves beautiful photographs of their baby, regardless of age. We have successfully photographed several newborns even up to 8 weeks old. Here is an example of a 6 week old baby’s newborn session. Here is an article we wrote on tips for “older” newborns!

Where will the session be?

The session will take place either at my beautiful studio in Edwardsville, IL or as a lifestyle session in your home. We will have a detailed conversation about both options, and we’ll help you make the right decision for your family.

What if my baby is fussy?

Not all babies are 100% settled and on their best behavior exactly when you want them to be. We set aside hours for your session, so do not worry about this one bit. Your newest family member will be exactly as they are supposed to be that day, and we are very experienced in soothing babies.

Yes, your baby might get fussy. Your baby will get hungry. Fussy is a natural response, and I welcome it, as it allows me the opportunity to capture you being the loving mother or father that you are to your baby. Some of my favorite images are parents showering their babies with love and comfort during these times.

How long will the session last?

While most sessions last around 2 hours, I will ask you to set aside 3 hours on your calendar. Some babies need to eat and be soothed more than others, and we will never rush your baby or the experience. If we need to go beyond the norm to create a beautiful gallery of images for you, We are happy to do so. However, we also am very respectful of your time, and will do everything in my control to keep the session moving as efficiently as possible.

Are parents and siblings included?

Always! Our goal as photographers is to tell your story, and that story is about all of you, your growing family, the indescribable love you feel as parents, and the adoration of older siblings. This is the beginning of a special relationship between all of you and your newest family member, and it is so important to capture it.

How should I prepare for the session?

Several days before your session, we will send you some very simple guidelines. we are different from other photographers in that we will not ask you to complete a long list of tasks on your session day. We understand getting everyone out of the house, or preparing for my arrival to yours, is enough of a task on its own. Our biggest request is that you try your best to relax and not worry about a thing. Let me take care of the details, so you can think of your photoshoot as time to enjoy your baby while we capture it.

How do I contact you?

You can reach me via my contact form, by email at heather@willowandmohrphotography.com, or by phone at 314-488-7150. We will talk through any remaining questions you have, and then I would love to get your due date on my calendar!

What should we wear?

Your baby won’t need clothes. we will use simple wraps for your baby to help curl them into those sweet newborn positions, and to help keep them feeling secure.

As for everyone else, one of the services we offer is a studio wardrobe. You are welcome to use it at no extra cost to you. If you prefer to wear your own clothing, We do offer a styling service for you to help you find the perfect mix of outfits for your family.

On a related note, we offer a hair & makeup add-on, so that is one less thing you need to worry about on session day!

Can you tell me about your style?

Our style is simple, natural, and emotive. Our goal is to capture your baby in a way that is as unique as your baby, including sweet facial expressions and movements. We utilize a lot of white and cream in my photos, both to keep things simple, and to emphasize how beautiful and pure your baby is.

We’ll capture those tiny details that change so fast, as well as photos of you connecting with your baby, documenting the love that shines so clearly on your face. We truly believe these are the photos that will mean the most to you years down the road, as you reminisce on this special, but fleeting time in your life. Click here to read more about our style. Our portfolio is also a very good example of what you can expect to receive.

How should we display our photos?

We recognize no two clients are the same. That is why we will consult with you to create the best options for your family.

Your photos deserve to be displayed in a way that they will bring you joy on a daily basis. We have done our research, and we exclusively work with the very best vendors in the United States to ensure that your photos can truly become art within your home. Whether you prefer to see your portraits on a wall, or to flip through them in an heirloom album, you will be able to enjoy them so much more than keeping them on a hard drive or lost in a social media feed.

We do recognize that many clients would like to purchase digital images as well, and we do offer that option. Digital files are presented in a beautiful glass box, along with a flash drive and 4×6 print of each photo.

Contact me to schedule your consultation, and we will work together to meet your goals.

How soon will I have my photos?

Typically photos are edited within 3 weeks of your session date. All ordering takes place at your photographic reveal and design consultation.  Heirloom products usually take up to 4 weeks for delivery. This is due to their custom nature. They are well worth the wait!

Can I share my photos on social media?
