Being a birth photographer is so incredible. I feel very fortunate to have the honor of photographing births for my clients. Birth photography is the thing that drew me to photography in the first place. It called to me, and I knew I was meant to do it. Due to my schedule, it has been hard for me to get to the place where I can offer births in good faith that I will be there for the baby’s arrival. However, I am finally to that point, and I feel confident in saying I now will be taking on a limited number of births each year.
Olive’s birth was amazing. She was born at Mercy Hospital, which is where I delivered all of my babies, so it was so neat to be on the other side of the birth equation in that hospital! No one knew Olive was going to be a girl until she was born. Being witness to that “it’s a girl” announcement made me wish we had waited to find out with at least one of ours! That announcement was one of many, many beautiful moments in this birth. Olive’s daddy was so tender as he coached his wife through her labor, and then held her hand through her c-section. Olive’s mommy was so incredibly thoughtful, and even stopped to express concern that her nurse had been on her feet so long without a break, while she was in labor. It takes a special person to be so amazing during labor. The little things like that I saw throughout this labor showed me that Olive’s parents have hearts of pure gold, and she is one blessed girl to be born into this family.
I can’t say enough wonderful things about this family. I felt so at ease with them, as if I have known them forever! I’m so excited to get to see Olive again in the near future for her newborn session!
